There’s providence in facts
The wisdom on doormats
I’d have worn it backwards if you offered me your hat
I passed out on the stairs
While April braids my hair
And I can hear through walls and windows just how much you care
The night sky sees it all
The regrets you’ll recall
The standard for how far you’ve come and how far you can fall
The three of clubs was dealt
Before the snow could melt
And in your search for certainty you stare up at my belt
And ignore the party noise
Ignore the party noise
You ignore the party noise
Ignore the party noise
She asked for my regrets
To clear the air as the clock resets
I’m hedging all my bets
On next year
She asked me if I pray
Choke out a thanks or simply inveigh
I’ll push that thought away
Til next year
On a little boat in the city sea
The shoreline’s running away with me
By evening tide perhaps I’ll be
A sailor’s shoegaze
Orion seems too serious
His northern kick mysterious
As he renders me delirious
A sailor’s shoegaze
She placed three in a line
That’s the belt there, that’s the first sign
The night sky intertwined
With her lifespan
He pushed her to the Side
A passing fad is a punished bride
The providence he eyed
A blind man
On a little boat in the city sea
The shoreline’s running away with me
By evening tide perhaps I’ll be
A sailor’s shoegaze
Orion seems too serious
His northern kick mysterious
As he renders me delirious
A sailor’s shoegaze
This mountainous divide
Keeping scorpions to one side
Finds the sky can hide
Your sneakers.
A scintillating pace
The morning light can stay in its place
Ten dollar shoes disgrace
The dance brought from a Subaru’s speakers
And we all go sailing into nothing
Knowing nothing’s
Here to stay
And I keep my eyes fixed on his waistline
Cause the night sky
Makes my day
Someone kissed me or I lost my mind,
I’ll patten the past so the flashback turns a profit of some kind
Someone kiss me before I lose my mind
I’ll batten the hatches seatbelts everyone’s feeling reckless I’m inclined
Lets roll the windows down
And see how winter sounds
And the daylight is a forlorn thought in the December air,
I’m freezing and I love it,
And we’re tossed out in the great unknown,
or just the highway glow
Grown up adolescents
Someone free me from this teenage mind,
This health immolating and self deprecating persona was left behind
But on New Years I’m always resigned
Lonesome memoirs sound so sweet even the cliche cringy kind
Lets sing out windows down
Laugh at how great we sound
And the daylight is a forlorn thought in the December air,
I’m freezing and I love it,
And we’re tossed out in the great unknown, or just the highway glow
Grown up adolescents
And we all go sailing into nothing
Knowing nothing
Swore to stay
And we all go running home for Christmas
Just so New Years
Goes away
And we all go sailing into nothing
Knowing nothing
Swore to stay
And we’re running headlong
Into moonlight
Cause the night sky
Makes my day
And we all go sailing into nothing
Knowing nothing
Swore to stay
And we all go running home for Christmas
Just so New Years
Goes away
Gunpowder sky
Following motions their patterns like forceps
Intensify
Party room gossip drinks champaign at doorsteps
Leading us astray
Before we think of what to say
Foment this year
Let’s make some mistakes then revise them later
Sorry my dear
You kissed a meteor digging a crater
Nearly, nearly there
Let’s give the neighbors a good scare
Pour me something really strong
Write me just another song
Somehow the last minutes are
Leaving me in awe
Say what you needed to hear
To you it’s so crystal clear
I cant move I’ll just stay here
On second thought, I need a beer
Dump the drops of flat champagne
Don’t think there’s much left to say
Smash the glass it could be fun
Our charades have come undone
Up in her room,
Dan knocks the door down but she’s gone already
Prepping months to come as tonight slowly comes undone
Bigger problems that’s your call
Some forgot, even less solved
On the porch and drunken lawn
Better not to get involved
December gloom,
Projecting bastions of winter and solemnly
I seem enthralled but
Better not to get involved
It’s getting late and I can’t stay
It got cold and it’s okay
Better years are still to come
With counts of five four three two
Don’t look back and change tonight,
Time itself will make it right
Better years are still to come,
With counts of five four three two
One
about
The second in my now annual last minute December holiday EP series. The arbitrary rules are as follows: no songs can be started (writing, production, or otherwise) before December 4th and must conform to a predetermined theme. This year's entry tells the story of a New Years Eve party.
